Integrations Overview

Integration philosophy and partner model for Dark Matter.

Overview

Dark Matter integrations extend DMTR's reach into research tools, portfolio systems, fund administration, custody, lending, and compliance. This section describes the integration philosophy, partner types, and how to get started. Integrations follow a consistent model for authentication, data sync, and event handling.

Integration model

The Dark Matter integration model is built on APIs, webhooks, and SDK patterns that enable bidirectional data flow. Partners connect their systems to Dark Matter through OAuth or API keys, with scoped permissions controlling access. The model supports both push (Dark Matter → partner) and pull (partner → Dark Matter) patterns depending on the use case.

Partner types

Partner types include research platforms (Bloomberg, PitchBook, AlphaSense), portfolio management systems (Addepar, eFront, Burgiss), fund administrators, custodians, lending platforms, and compliance vendors. Each type has specific integration patterns and capability levels. Partners may be certified, in development, or in specification phase.

Capability levels

Capability levels range from read-only (position lookup, enrichment) to full bidirectional sync (position updates, transfer workflows). Level 1 provides entity lookup and enrichment; Level 2 adds intent capture and workflow triggers; Level 3 enables full position sync and settlement integration. Partners are onboarded according to their target capability level.

Setup guidance: To get started with Dark Matter integrations, review the SDK patterns in the docs, obtain API credentials from the dashboard, and complete the approval checklist. New partners should contact the integrations team and complete technical and security requirements before go-live. Sandbox environments are available for development and testing.

Custody & Settlement

DMTR coordinates with custodians for transfer execution using two settlement patterns:

  • DVP (Delivery vs. Payment): Simultaneous exchange of position ownership and consideration
  • FOP (Free of Payment): Position transfer without immediate payment (used for internal restructuring, gifts, or pre-funded transfers)

Settlement instructions include position identifiers, quantities, counterparties, and settlement date. Custodians return confirmation and finality status. Escrow flows support conditional transfers where assets are held until conditions are met (e.g., regulatory approval, counterparty confirmation).

Finality varies by custodian and asset class — some transfers achieve finality at confirmation, others after a cooling-off period. The DMTR settlement bus tracks status from initiated → confirmed → final.

Getting started

To get started with DMTR integrations, review the SDK patterns, obtain API credentials, and follow the approval checklist. Sandbox environments are available for development and testing.
