Registry

The Dark Matter Registry: canonical ownership record, authoritative model, units, beneficial ownership, querying, mutations, and audit trail.

What the Registry does

The Dark Matter Registry is the authoritative record of beneficial ownership. It stores positions, units, and visible encumbrances in a queryable, auditable format. All ownership state flows through the Registry; no other system holds the canonical ownership record for Dark Matter-managed positions.

Authoritative record model

The Registry is the single source of truth. When a transfer executes, the Registry is updated; when a position is created or encumbered, the Registry reflects it. External systems (cap tables, admin, custodians) may hold copies, but the Registry is the authoritative reference for Dark Matter operations.

Units and beneficial ownership

The Registry tracks units (shares, interests, or fractional amounts) and maps them to beneficial owners. Beneficial ownership is the economic interest held by the allocator, distinct from legal or custodial arrangements. The Registry answers: who owns what, and how much.

Querying the Registry

Query the Registry via API to retrieve positions by entity ID, owner, vehicle, status, or other filters. Queries return Position Objects and related metadata. Pagination and filtering support large datasets. Use the search and list endpoints for discovery; use get-by-ID for direct lookup.

Registry mutations

Mutations—transfers, encumbrances, status changes—flow through the Rights Engine and Identity Graph before reaching the Registry. Only validated, compliant mutations are applied. Mutations are atomic and produce a new state; previous state is preserved in the audit trail.

Audit trail

Every Registry mutation is logged with timestamp, actor, before/after state, and provenance. The audit trail supports compliance, dispute resolution, and forensic analysis. Audit records are immutable and queryable via the API.
