Migration from Cap Table Tools
Export from Carta/Pulley/AngelList, map entities, import positions, verify.
Overview
Migrating from cap table tools (Carta, Pulley, AngelList, etc.) to DMTR requires exporting entity and position data, mapping to the DMTR schema, importing positions, and verifying the migration.
Export from Carta/Pulley/AngelList
Use each platform's export or API to extract entities, positions, and related data. Carta and Pulley offer CSV/Excel exports and APIs; AngelList has similar options. Export entities (companies, funds, SPVs) first, then positions (holdings, cap table rows). Preserve IDs for reference mapping.
Map entities
Map exported entities to DMTR entities. Create issuer records for companies and funds; map vehicle classes (e.g., Carta "Fund" to fund_lp, "SPV" to spv_llc). Resolve entity relationships (parent/child, feeder/master). Assign or generate DMTR entity IDs; maintain a mapping table for positions.
Import positions
Import positions with references to the mapped entities. Map economic terms (preference, participation), transfer restrictions, and compliance state. Handle cap table-specific fields (e.g., option grants, warrants) per DMTR schema support. Use batch import with validation; fix errors iteratively.
Verify
Verify entity counts, position counts, and aggregate metrics (total shares, valuation). Spot-check individual positions for correctness. Validate that transfer restrictions and compliance flags carried over. Run parallel systems during a transition period if needed.
