Bloomberg Integration
Bloomberg Terminal integration for Dark Matter position enrichment and entity lookup.
Overview
The Bloomberg integration connects Dark Matter to Bloomberg Terminal data for position enrichment, entity lookup, and overlay of registry and transferability information. Users can view Dark Matter position status directly within Bloomberg workflows. The integration supports terminal data enrichment, entity resolution, and position overlay for deal and holding pages. Bloomberg integration requires a Bloomberg data license and DMTR API access.
Capabilities
Capabilities include terminal data enrichment (pulling Bloomberg identifiers and metadata into Dark Matter positions), entity lookup (resolving Bloomberg entities to Dark Matter registry participants), and position overlay (displaying Dark Matter transferability and encumbrance data on Bloomberg deal and position pages). The integration supports both API-based sync and extension-based overlay. Use capabilities according to your Bloomberg product and Dark Matter subscription tier.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites include a Bloomberg Terminal or B-PIPE subscription with API access, DMTR API credentials with research platform scopes, and network connectivity between your systems and Dark Matter. For extension overlay, the DMTR Chrome extension must be installed and authenticated. Verify Bloomberg API entitlements for the data types you need (equity, fixed income, fund data). Contact your Bloomberg and Dark Matter representatives for access.
Permissions and scopes
Permissions and scopes required include positions:read, registry:read, and research:enrich. The integration uses API keys for server-to-server or OAuth for user-delegated flows. Request scopes via the DMTR dashboard or integrations team. Scope approval may take 1–2 business days. Do not request broader scopes than needed; audit logs track scope usage.
Setup
Setup involves provisioning Bloomberg API credentials, configuring the DMTR integration in the dashboard, and mapping Bloomberg identifiers (BBGID, CUSIP, etc.) to Dark Matter entity types. Follow the setup wizard for step-by-step configuration. Test in sandbox before production. Document your configuration for troubleshooting and handoff. Setup typically takes 1–2 hours for experienced integrators.
Supported workflows
Supported workflows include position lookup from Bloomberg deal pages, transfer feasibility checks before initiating transfers, and bulk enrichment of positions with Bloomberg data. Workflows integrate with the DMTR extension for interactive use and with the API for batch operations. Unsupported workflows include real-time streaming of Bloomberg market data into Dark Matter; use batch sync instead.
Data model mapping
Data model mapping defines how Bloomberg entities (BBGID, CUSIP, ISIN, company, fund) map to Dark Matter Position and Participant objects. Bloomberg security identifiers map to Dark Matter position identifiers; company and fund names map to participants. Handle identifier resolution and disambiguation; some Bloomberg entities may map to multiple Dark Matter positions. Refer to the mapping reference for field-level details.
Security
Security requirements include storing Bloomberg and Dark Matter credentials in a secrets manager, using TLS for all API calls, and restricting credential access to authorized systems. Do not log or expose Bloomberg data in client-side code. Comply with Bloomberg data use terms and Dark Matter security policies. Rotate credentials according to the secrets rotation schedule. Report suspected compromise immediately.
Limitations
Limitations include Bloomberg API rate limits (varies by subscription), data latency (end-of-day for some data types), and unsupported Bloomberg products (desktop-only products without API). The integration does not support real-time streaming; use polling or webhooks for updates. Some identifier types require manual mapping. Contact support for workarounds or feature requests.
Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting steps include verifying credentials and scopes, checking Bloomberg API status, and reviewing DMTR API logs for request IDs. Common issues: identifier resolution failures (check mapping), rate limit errors (implement backoff), and timeout errors (increase timeout or reduce batch size). Use the Dark Matter support portal for escalation. Include request IDs and timestamps in support tickets.
Reference
Reference documentation includes the Bloomberg API documentation (Bloomberg Developer Portal), DMTR API reference for position and registry endpoints, and the integration mapping specification. Links are available in the integrations dashboard. Keep local copies for offline reference; documentation is updated periodically.
